Each year, the three departments in the College of the Arts select faculty members to receive the Excellence in Scholarship Award.  This year, the Department of Art has chosen Kalina Winska, Assistant Professor of Art, for this award.

Professor Winska specializes in drawing and foundations.  Her creative and scholarly accomplishments in the 2014-15 academic year were robust and diverse.

As a junior faculty member her creative accomplishments, which included exhibitions, lectures, workshops and residencies were most impressive.

She participated in 16 adjudicated and invitational exhibitions at the national, regional, and local level, and conducted workshops as an “Artist in Residence” throughout the summer located in Michigan, Virginia, Florida and New York.

Her recent solo exhibition at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts required a large body of creative works, time and planning – This exhibit was interactive and engaged the greater Valdosta community as well.

Additionally, Professor Winska collaborates both at VSU and abroad. She received funding from a VSU grant for a collaborative project with the Department of Physics, titled: “Creating Art with Reactive Metals using Plasma Etching.” And, she is building relationships with the Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts, Lodz, Poland.

Professor Winska continues to receive departmental, college and university funding to pursue her creative and scholarly works. Her efforts and results in the area of scholarship and research continue to fuel her professional growth, which positively impacts our programs and students in the studio and classroom.
