Japanese Artist Returns To VSU For Ceramics Workshops

Valdosta State University will welcome Masayasu “Jack” Iizuka, a Japanese potter and ceramic artist, to its Department of Art Ceramics Studio on Wednesday, April 5, and Thursday, April 6. Born in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, he is a master at the sgraffito technique, which involves the etching and carving of intricate designs into ceramic surfaces. He holds a master’s degree in ceramics from California State University and a bachelor’s degree in art from Loma Linda University. He will be demonstrating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in Fine Arts Building Room 1054. Faculty, staff, students, retirees, alumni, and friends of the university are invited to attend this free event and come and go as their schedule allows. He previously visited the university in 2015.
