The VSU Mass Media Program is proud to honor Andrew Irvin as the recipient of the 2017-2018 Dr. Larry Etling Scholarship. Andrew is an aspiring screenwriter/producer who also works in the fields of acting, editing, and directing.

Since enrolling at VSU, Andrew has earned Dean’s List honors, produced multiple video projects, volunteered at three local charities, and won the Film and Video Society’s 48-Hour Film Festival twice. His portfolio includes various duties both in front of the camera and working behind the scenes.

“He’s an incredibly gifted writer,” says Mass Media Professor Frank Barnas. “Andrew’s work in my advanced scriptwriting class is some of the best I’ve ever read. Our students win national awards for their narrative scripts and Andrew’s work is certainly of that caliber.”

The scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Larry Etling, who served as a Mass Media faculty member from 1999 – 2015. The scholarship supports high quality students as they pursue their careers in Mass Media and encourages students to act as advocates for their discipline. The Dr. Larry Etling Scholarship provides an award of $1,500 to the winner.
