Dr. Kenny Ott, Dr. Diane Wright and Dr. Charles Backes, (pictured above left to right) recently served as instructors at the National Training Institute (NTI) held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The National Training Institute is sponsored by the National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (NJATC) and serves to provide instructor training for electrical instructors who work with apprentices and journeymen in the organized electrical industry. Over 1700 instructors, training directors, and other electrical industry professionals attended the 2013 National Training Institute, with over 600 participating in the instructor-training program. Dr. Backes also serves as the Director of Professional Education for the NTI and Dr. Ott is a member of the professional education faculty. Dr. Wright attended as a “visiting scholar” and is expected to become a permanent member of the faculty. The National Training Institute has approximately 40 professional educators on its faculty, representing approximately 35 universities and industry organizations. This training institute is widely regarded as the premier national electrical instructor training event in the industry.
