Cascade Upgrade

Cascade, the online web editor used by VSU, has been upgraded to version 7.10.

Bandwidth Increase

Great news . . . the bandwidth for VSU Wireless has increased!

VSU Wireless

Peachnet has increased the bandwidth from 350 MB to 650 MB.  With this increase, we anticipate a better, faster internet experience for VSU wireless users.

Wireless Printing from Your Personal Computer

Students, faculty, and staff can now print wireless to campus lab printers from their personally-owned PCs and Mac computers!

If you haven’t already, connect to VSU Wireless.

1. Download and install the PC or Mac Printer Driver Software.

2. Start printing.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Printing to VSU campus lab printers can only be done from VSU computers, or from personal computers connected to VSU Wireless.
  • Windows 8 and 8.1 users will only be able to print from Desktop applications, not Metro apps.
  • The Mac driver is only available for Mac OS 10.6 or higher.
  • This service is not yet available for mobile devices such as iPhones, Kindles, and the like.

VSU’s Technology Aids in Student Retention and Success

VSU uses software and technology to aid in the retention rate of its students by ensuring at-risk students receive the assistance they need to succeed.

Valdosta State’s preemptive action in recognizing the needs of its students was commended in Campus Technology magazine on March 13, 2014.  On page 17 of the article, “Know – and Retain – Your Student,” VSU’s effective use of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and Endeca in identifying at-risk students and potential issues early on are briefly described.

VSU’s interim CIO, Brian Haugabrook, connected the various systems in order to make the data user friendly and accessible. The use of informative data have already begun showing signs of early intervention success. When it comes to students receiving assistance, Haugabrook notes that, “We’re seeing a spike at the tutoring center starting in the second week of class rather than after the second month.”
