It’s a dictionary of sorts, a Reference book, so we can’t let you check it out . . . but stop by the Reference collection and have a look at Sex Slang, a book that made at least one of our suave, smart, steadfast librarians recoil from its pages in momentary horror.
Authors Tom Dalzell and Terry Victor say “We are hard-wired for a linguistic resourcefulness that always matches, and usually surpasses, our physical and sexual invention. Most sexual slang represents practices as old as the ages– newly discovered, of course, by the next generation.”
How many euphemisms could there be for this stuff? Approximately 3,000, apparently. You may be surprised.
Sex Slang is among 100 new titles purchased in 2012– with funds approved by the Library Affairs Committee of the Faculty Senate–Â to support gender and sexuality studies. Shout out to Library Affairs!
