Anxiety always has been my incentive to press forward. In my artwork I make the choice to not let it rule me and instead lead me.
Frankly, I used to abhor painting and color theory. At the time I felt that I had a stronger affinity towards black and white dry media, but that was only because they were my only tools of trade at the time. As I began to tackle painting as a medium, I became fascinated with dynamic lighting and values. I enjoyed how loose the paint was and how I could go over an undesirable moment when it became “a happy little accident.” I became infatuated with the blending and juxtaposition of color that it revived an older hobby—comics.
The subject matter I chose for my series is based on concept art for a web comic I intend on publishing in the near future. When choosing a color palette each color palette, my goal is to incorporate vibrant colors while experimenting with light and value. With this experimentation of the visual elements, I feel that I am able to fully immerse the viewer into my fantasy world. I am interested in how each viewer will interpret the visual narrative I have provided for them with minimum context. There’s always a special delight in witnessing a person’s raw reaction.
