VSU: When was your chapter founded and chartered on the Valdosta State University campus?
KH: The Lambda Beta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was chartered on October 22nd, 1988 at Valdosta State College.
VSU: What is your chapter’s philanthropy or mission?
KH: It is the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service, civil and social action. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff, and community partners work to create and support initiatives that align with our vision.
VSU: Tell us about your chapter.
KH: The Lavish Lambda Beta chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is currently made up of nineteen driven, diverse, and unique young women. Since our chartering in 1988, we have graced the campus of Valdosta State University with the true meaning of sisterhood. Over the years, we have been recognized for our academic success and community service. Lambda Beta continues to strive for “Greater Service, Greater Progress”.
VSU: What made you personally want to join this chapter?
KH: I joined Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. because I fell in love with everything we stand for and wanted to make a difference in my community. This organization encourages women to be the best they can be while remaining true to themselves at all times. Sigma Gamma Rho exemplifies true sisterhood, quality in all that we do, and continuous dedication to our mission and service.
VSU: Is there anything about your chapter that you are especially proud of?
KH: The members of Lambda Beta always strive to exceed our community service goals as well as our academic success. I am pleased to report that the women of the Lavish Lambda Beta chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. received a chapter GPA of 3.3 for Spring 2021.
