Annual Juried Student Art Competition Accepting Submissions, Deadline is Feb. 23<\/h1>\n

VALDOSTA \u2014 The Valdosta State University Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery is now accepting submissions for its 20th<\/sup><\/span>\u00a0annual Juried Student Art Competition. All currently enrolled students, regardless of their major area of study, are encouraged to participate.<\/p>\n

A maximum of four two-dimensional and\/or three-dimensional works may be submitted for the Juried Student Art Competition. This includes graphic design, illustration (digital and traditional), interior design (presentation boards, illustrations, models, and so on), computer animation, drawing, printmaking (lithography, etching, silkscreen, relief, collographs, etc.), painting, aqueous media, jewelry, photography (digital and darkroom), ceramics, small metals, sculpture, and mixed media.<\/p>\n

Artwork must be submitted by the student applicant, not a faculty member, and must be original, in both concept and execution. Reproductions or prints of original work will not be considered; however, printmaking, as noted above, is welcome. The work must have been completed while attending VSU and must not have been previously exhibited in the Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery.<\/p>\n

Submissions will be accepted at\u00a0http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/studentcomp\/<\/a>\u00a0until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23. Late submissions will not be accepted.<\/p>\n

There are no entry fees, but there is prize money to be won \u2014 $200 for first place, $125 for second place, $100 for third place, and $75 for fourth place.<\/p>\n

Rich Curtis, 2018 Student Art Competition judge, will review the online submissions and select the pieces that will be featured in the Juried Student Art Competition. Students will be notified of acceptance via email by 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26. Only those submissions accepted by the juror will compete for awards and be featured in an exhibition in the Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery from Monday, March 19, through Friday, April 6.<\/p>\n

Curtis serves as an assistant professor of art at Thomas University in Thomasville, a position he has held since 2011. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the University of North Alabama in 2000. After working for a year at the Birmingham Museum of Art he was accepted to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in performance and time-based media in 2004. He has exhibited throughout the United States, as well as internationally.<\/p>\n
