{"id":403,"date":"2015-01-26T21:41:26","date_gmt":"2015-01-26T21:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/?p=403"},"modified":"2015-01-26T21:41:26","modified_gmt":"2015-01-26T21:41:26","slug":"dr-aaron-anderson-to-meet-with-theatre-dance-faculty-staff-and-students-about-the-standardized-patient-program-at-vcu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/2015\/01\/26\/dr-aaron-anderson-to-meet-with-theatre-dance-faculty-staff-and-students-about-the-standardized-patient-program-at-vcu\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Aaron Anderson to meet with Theatre &amp; Dance Faculty, Staff, and Students about the Standardized Patient Program at VCU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the \u201cYear of the Arts\u201d activities for 2014-2015, the College of the Arts will be hosting Dr. Aaron Anderson from Virginia Commonwealth University\u00a0January 28-29, 2015 to meet with our Theatre and Dance faculty and students.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Anderson will be speaking with students and faculty about the Standardized Patient (simulated patient) program at VCU which involves working with the VCU School of Medicine to better equip health care providers with the necessary\u00a0skills\u00a0to understand and communicate with patients in challenging environments and situations. \u00a0Presenting\u00a0work done through a program of\u00a0this nature addresses\u00a0Valdosta State University\u2019s goal to consider innovative practices that potentially affect\u00a0academic programs across university campuses and will involve regional community partners such as area medical centers and patient representative organizations. \u00a0Additionally, programs of this nature create opportunities to expand public knowledge about creative practices being\u00a0utilized in an\u00a0unconventional manner.<\/p>\n<p>Details for Dr. Anderson&#8217;s agenda can be found below. Anderson PhD<\/strong><\/em><em>\u00a0is Associate Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Theatre, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Assistant Director of the MFA Program in Movement Pedagogy, Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Internal Medicine, Certified Teacher and Fight Director with three international organizations, and Founding Director of VCU\u2019s Standardized Patient Program. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>He holds an Interdisciplinary PhD in Culture from Northwestern University and an MFA\u00a0in Theatre from the University of Hawai\u2019i at Manoa. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In addition to his work in theatre and drama, he specializes in qualitative and mixed-method research design, pedagogy and curriculum design, theories of the body and\u00a0methods of movement analysis. He is a recognized expert on media violence and\u00a0on the use of theatre training and performance studies in applied social science, and\u00a0has designed the curricula for several national and international teacher certification\u00a0programs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In 2007, Dr. Anderson was awarded VCU\u2019s School of the Arts Award for Distinguished\u00a0Achievement in Service. In 2008 he shared the Educational Innovation Award\u00a0from VCU\u2019s School of Medicine for pioneering research in the field of healthcare\u00a0communication; and in 2012 he was honored with VCU\u2019s School of the Arts\u2019 Award of\u00a0Excellence. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Other work at VCU includes teaching at the daVinci Center, the Brand Center, the\u00a0Center for Corporate Education, the MBA Executive Fast Track, the Grace E. Harris\u00a0Leadership Institute, the School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, the School\u00a0of Engineering, and other programs.
