Tickets are on sale now.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Howard Hsu, conductor and Valdosta Symphony Orchestra music director, said that this is the first time he can recall a concert falling on Valentine\u2019s Day since he arrived in Valdosta. When selecting the music for the evening, he decided that a love-themed concert would be a perfect way to celebrate the happy occurrence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery work on the program is related to love, or some aspect of it,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will begin with Leonard Bernstein\u2019s <i>West Side Story<\/i> Overture and continue with Richard Wager\u2019s <i>Siegfried Idyll<\/i>, which, Hsu explained, was never meant to be heard by the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWagner composed it as a birthday present for his wife, Cosima, following the birth of their son, Siegfried,\u201d he shared. \u201cWagner gathered a chamber ensemble on the stairs of his villa on Christmas morning to perform this gift for the sleeping Cosima.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can only imagine what she thought as she awoke to the beautiful opening bars,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The evening will conclude with Camille Sant-Sa\u00ebns\u2019s \u201cBacchanale\u201d from <i>Samson and Delilah<\/i>, Pietro Mascagni\u2019s \u201cIntermezzo\u201d from <i>Cavalleria Rusticanna<\/i>, and selections from Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky\u2019s <i>Swan Lake Suite<\/i>, Op. 20.<\/p>\n<p>The program lineup includes vocal performances by Missy Griffin, who earned a master\u2019s degree in classical voice performance from VSU; Caroline Hatchett, who earned a music education degree and master\u2019s degree in performance from VSU, serves as an adjunct instructor of voice in both the Department of Music and the Theatre and Dance Area at the university, and is a member of the Sine Nomine Singers of Valdosta; and Karl Paoletti Jr., an assistant professor of voice and director of VSU Opera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis evening promises to be a fun and romantic one \u2026,\u201d Hsu said.<\/p>\n<p>Visions of Love is the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra\u2019s third concert of the 2014-2015 season \u2014 the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra\u2019s 25<sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup> anniversary season.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for Saturday\u2019s performance, which is sponsored by Ladenburg Thalmann, are $27 for adults and $10 for students.
