The tragedy. The comedy. The spectacle.<\/p>\n<p>The Valdosta Symphony Orchestra\u2019s next performance will feature highlights from the silent era\u2019s most beloved films \u2014 the flickers.<\/p>\n<p>The Valdosta Symphony Orchestra (VSO) will present the special concert, <em>Flicker: Symphonic Celebration of the Silent Age<\/em>, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, in Whitehead Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $27 for adults and $10 for students. Discounted tickets are available for senior citizens, military personnel, and Valdosta State University faculty and staff.<\/p>\n<p>Reservations are required.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the evening, the VSO will perform <em>Night on Bald Mountain<\/em> by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky; <em>Danse Macabre<\/em>, Op. 40 by Camille Saint-Sa\u00ebns; <em>Peer Gynt<\/em> Suite No. 1, Op. 46 by Edvard Grieg; <em>Finlandia<\/em>, Op. 26 by Jean Sibelius; and <em>Firebird<\/em> Suite Infernal Dance and Finale by Igor Stravinsky to high definition movie excerpts.<\/p>\n<p><em>Flicker<\/em> is part of the Film Score in Reverse Series, produced by Video Ideas Productions. It features excerpts from such silent classics as <em>Metropolis<\/em>, Fritz Lang\u2019s 1927 expressionist sci-fi classic; <em>Nosferatu<\/em>, F.W. Murnau\u2019s 1922 vampire thriller; <em>Out West<\/em>, Roscoe \u201cFatty\u201d Arbuckle\u2019s 1918 Western spoof; <em>Phantom of the Opera<\/em>, Lon Chaney\u2019s 1925 portrayal of the legendary fiend; <em>The Tramp<\/em>, Charles Chaplin\u2019s 1915 bitter-sweet comedy; <em>A Trip to the Moon<\/em>, George M\u00e9li\u00e8s\u2019s 1902 sci-fi adventure; <em>Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde<\/em>, the 1920 John Barrymore shocker; <em>Faust<\/em>, the 1926 version of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe\u2019s classic story; <em>The General<\/em>, Buster Keaton\u2019s 1927 locomotive laugh fest; <em>Hunchback of Notre Dame<\/em>, Lon Chaney\u2019s 1923 portrayal of Victor Hugo\u2019s tragic monster; and <em>Intolerance<\/em>, D.W.
