{"id":610,"date":"2015-11-30T11:17:35","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T16:17:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/?p=610"},"modified":"2015-11-30T11:17:35","modified_gmt":"2015-11-30T16:17:35","slug":"vsu-professor-shares-gremlin-creations-in-retzhof-castle-austria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/2015\/11\/30\/vsu-professor-shares-gremlin-creations-in-retzhof-castle-austria\/","title":{"rendered":"VSU Professor Shares Gremlin Creations In Retzhof Castle, Austria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/11\/gremlin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-611\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/11\/gremlin.jpg\" alt=\"gremlin\" width=\"555\" height=\"416\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/11\/gremlin.jpg 555w, https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/coa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/11\/gremlin-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>VSU Professor of Dance, Eric Nielsen, has been invited to an International Dance, Theatre and Technology Conference at Retzhof Castle, Austria.\u00a0 During the four day conference, Nielsen will present his program entitled, &#8220;Creating a Choreodrama Using Motion Capture Technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This presentation documents the collaboration efforts, between Art Professor Hollis Barnett and Nielsen, in creating a choreodrama (story based choreography) using motion capture technology.\u00a0 The presentation will be a lecture\/video presentation which will culminate in a discussion with participants attending.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this presentation is to help educators and students understand the availability of this technology, site problems and discoveries in working with this technology, and reveal the accomplishments that were achieved through a collaborative team project.<\/p>\n<p><em>Attic Antics<\/em>, the title of the choreodrama, premiered October 3, 2013 in Sawyer Theatre at Valdosta State University.\u00a0 The creation of this unique animation required the use of three software programs. Motion capture was achieved with \u201cMotive\u201d software by NationalPoint Inc.\u00a0 The mixing of the captured motion onto these characters was accomplished through \u201cMotionbuilder\u201d by Autodesk. The building, manipulation and animation of the characters were completed with LightWave 3D modeling and animation software by Newtek, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>The collaborative team consisted of Art Professor Hollis Barnett, who teaches motion capture technology in VSU\u2019s Art Department, and Professor Eric Nielsen, who conceived the choreodrama. \u00a0Professors Sarah Arnett and Catherine Schaeffer, two VSU dance faculty performers, were recruited to create the motion capture segments, and five student dancers, performed live on stage and interacted with the projected motion capture animations.
