{"id":84,"date":"2014-12-02T12:00:19","date_gmt":"2014-12-02T12:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/comarts\/?p=84"},"modified":"2014-12-09T21:38:24","modified_gmt":"2014-12-09T21:38:24","slug":"speech-communication-and-mass-media-joint-graduate-program-growing-at-vsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/comarts\/2014\/12\/02\/speech-communication-and-mass-media-joint-graduate-program-growing-at-vsu\/","title":{"rendered":"Speech Communication and Mass Media Joint Graduate Program Growing at VSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Caroline Moore<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe field of communication is becoming a convergence of design, speech communication and mass media that is forming into an art,\u201d according to the Department of Communication Arts graduate program coordinator Dr. David Nelson.<\/p>\n<p>The VSU Masters of Communication degree program is jointly sponsored by Speech Communication and Mass Media.\u00a0 It is designed to help students become the \u201cbest possible artist in their field,\u201d Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>With the job markets becoming increasingly competitive, young professionals are exploring how graduate school can positively affect their future. Students in the program develop a deeper understanding of theory, critical thinking and problem solving skills. \u201cThe skill set they learn in graduate school gives them a whole box of tools they can use to jump into their careers,\u201d \u00a0Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>The graduate program is small in size, which allows for the opportunity of quality one-on-one time for students.
