{"id":96,"date":"2014-12-02T12:00:08","date_gmt":"2014-12-02T12:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/comarts\/?p=96"},"modified":"2014-12-05T17:16:39","modified_gmt":"2014-12-05T17:16:39","slug":"a-roast-and-a-toast-for-vsus-first-lady-and-speech-comms-dr-mitchell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/comarts\/2014\/12\/02\/a-roast-and-a-toast-for-vsus-first-lady-and-speech-comms-dr-mitchell\/","title":{"rendered":"A Roast and a Toast for VSU\u2019s First Lady and Speech Comm\u2019s Dr. Mitchell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Kaitlyn Redish<\/p>\n<p>VSU First Lady Dr. Dacia Charlesworth and Speech Communication Assistant Professor Dr. Joseph Mitchell were the good natured victims of the third annual VSU Public Relations Student Society of America Roast on Nov. 17.<\/p>\n<p>Charlseworth was roasted and toasted by her husband, VSU President Dr. William McKinney, and Will Jimerson, a former VSU Student Government Association president who now works for VSU as an admissions counselor.\u00a0 They told funny but kind personal stories of cupcakes and cats and courting and the joys of perfectionism.\u00a0 It was a humorous but loving tribute to the woman they referred to as the \u201cmother\u201d of everyone at Valdosta State University.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The two students who roasted Mitchell poked gentle fun at the man who has taught them a variety of public relations courses.\u00a0 As they mimicked him, his favorite words and phrases came back to haunt him in the bright lights of the Bailey Science Center. \u00a0All who knew Mitchell enjoyed laughing at the good natured jousting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe roast was so much fun,\u201d said Caroline Wilson, VSU PRSSA president.\u201c I loved hearing everyone laughing and getting into listening to the roasters and their jokes.
