As the MSN student came forward to receive her hood, she was joined by her faculty mentor on stage. The academic hood is worn over the graduation gown as part of full academic regalia or academic dress attire at graduation and commencement ceremonies. The velvet on an academic hood represents the degree earned. The lining colors of the academic hood represent the school where the degree was earned. The size of academic hood represents whether the academic hood is a doctoral hood, master&#8217;s hood, or bachelor&#8217;s hood.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/conhs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2015\/05\/MSN-Recipient.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-214\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/conhs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2015\/05\/MSN-Recipient-1024x843.jpg\" alt=\"MSN Recipient\" width=\"560\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/conhs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2015\/05\/MSN-Recipient-1024x843.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/conhs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2015\/05\/MSN-Recipient-300x247.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">After congratulating Ms. Brockington, Dr. Cohen took a moment\u00a0to present a video highlighting the undergraduates&#8217; time spent at VSU School of Nursing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1240\" height=\"698\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/84aERoBpQd4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Following the video presentation, Dr. Vanessa Jones approached the podium to offer a description of the nursing pin that each BSN Graduate received that day. A nursing pin is a type of badge, usually made of metal such as gold or silver, which is worn by nurses to identify the nursing school from which they graduated.
