“Don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to make it logical; don’t edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.”
― Franz Kafka
Odradek is the lit mag of the VSU English Department. We seek creative work of all varieties from VSU students—writing, photography, music, film, painting, internet art, whatever.
All submissions can be sent to us at odradeklitjournal@gmail.com While we are wide open to the work we will consider, we ask that writers and artists abide by the following guidelines:
General formatting requirements for written submissions
- Our preference is that manuscripts have 1-inch margins and Times New Roman (or another familiar font) at 12 pt. typeface
- Make sure your preferred name appears somewhere in the file
- It’s easier for us if you avoid unconventional formatting unless it is required for the artistic meaning of your work
Fiction & Creative Nonfiction
- Please double-space your manuscript unless the work demands otherwise
- Fiction and Creative Nonfiction submissions should be no longer than approximately 15 pages each (this can be single stories or several shorter works)
- Please send no more than one Fiction or Creative Nonfiction entry at a time (one of each is okay)
Poetry
- There is no cap on the number of poems we will consider
- In the spirit of poetry, we will read all you weird little self-introspective verses
- There are not strict formatting guidelines for poems, though if there is unusual formatting please send your work as a PDF
Everything Else
- Music should include lyrics and be sent in mp3 format
- Memes must be mildly amusing (and tasteful)
- There are no limits for the number of photographs, paintings, or other visual artworks we consider (though please use common sense)
- For other forms, have fun and surprise us
