Monday, January 21, 2013, is both Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidential Inauguration Day. If you’re planning to go to Washington for the inauguration, the District of Columbia has prepared a site to help guide you around the inaugural activity areas. If you’d like to mark the day with service opportunities, MLK.gov provides more information about the MLK Day of Service.
More information about inaugural activities is available from the Joint Congressional Commission on Inaugural Ceremonies, which posts this guide to the 57th Presidential Inauguration. For instance, you can read past inaugural addresses and learn famous first facts from inaugurations.
On display in the government documents exhibit in the Odum Library Reference Area are print copies of presidential papers, including inaugural addresses, and other documents related to presidential ceremonies. Just ask at the Reference Desk or contact the government documents librarian at 229-245-3748 or ecrogers@valdosta.edu.
