Google isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t.\u00c2\u00a0 If you use the databases properly they will actually save you time.<\/li>\n<li>If you need to find articles for your paper, start at the articles tab.<\/li>\n<li>General databases are a good place to start because they have a little bit of everything (like the Palms!).\u00c2\u00a0 Give Academic Search Complete a try first.<\/li>\n<li>If the general database doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have what you need, try a subject database. \u00c2\u00a0These databases are focused on just one discipline (like a barbeque restaurant!).\u00c2\u00a0 Select a subject from the drop-down menu labeled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Articles by Subject\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 You\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll see the databases our librarians recommend under \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Try these first!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<\/li>\n<li>Whichever database you choose, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t waste your time with a basic search.\u00c2\u00a0 Do an advanced search and break your topic into key concepts.\u00c2\u00a0 If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re writing about childhood obesity, try searching for the terms <em>children<\/em> and <em>obesity<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Most databases don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t recognize natural language.\u00c2\u00a0 What does that mean?\u00c2\u00a0 Instead of searching for <em>influence of high fructose corn syrup on childhood obesity rates in Mid-Atlantic states, <\/em>you will need to<em> <\/em>break your idea down into keywords. \u00c2\u00a0There is no right answer to which keywords will find everything you want, so be patient and keep trying.<\/li>\n<li>Most databases will let you limit your search in a variety of ways. \u00c2\u00a0If you need to search for peer reviewed journals only, or if you can only use a certain date range (maybe nothing older than ten years), look for these limiters.<\/li>\n<li>If you want more information about the best way to search, try our guide: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/library\/learn\/booleans.shtml\">http:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/library\/learn\/booleans.shtml<\/a><\/li>\n<li>It isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t too late to do a great job on your papers, but your deadlines are getting closer every minute.\u00c2\u00a0 You need to start writing as soon as possible to make sure we can help you get the information you need.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, research can be a messy and confusing process.\u00c2\u00a0 If you get stuck, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/library\/ask.php\">ask a reference librarian for help<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s what we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re here for!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you&#8217;re off campus, don&#8217;t forget to login to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/library\/any.php\">Anywhere Access<\/a> with your BlazeVIEW username and password before you try to access our databases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m going to go over the ten tips you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll need to know in order to find some reliable articles for your term paper.\u00c2\u00a0 We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re getting close to the finish line for Fall 2010, and I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to waste any of your time.
