In this document the international organization recognizes \u201cthe inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family [as] the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More information on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/law\/help\/commemorative-observations\/human-rights-day.php\">history of Human Rights Day and Week<\/a>, December 10<sup>th<\/sup>-17<sup>th<\/sup>, is available through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/law\">Law Library of Congress<\/a>.\u00a0 Online documents relating to Human Rights Day include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.presidency.ucsb.edu\/ws\/index.php?pid=87226\">Proclamation 2866<\/a>, in which President Harry S. Truman proclaimed Human Rights day in 1949;<\/li>\n<li>a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/UDHR\/Pages\/UDHRMaterials.aspx\">worldwide collection of UDHR materials<\/a> collected by the UN\u2019s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights;<\/li>\n<li>current <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/PublicationsResources\/Pages\/FactSheets.aspx\">fact sheets<\/a> about global issues such as the rights to water, health, adequate housing, food, and expression.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanrights.gov\/\">Humanrights.gov<\/a>\u00a0 is the official site for the U.S. government\u2019s information about human rights. Here you can read recent news and reports about issues such as disability, freedom of expression and of religious observance, LGBT, labor, and other political, civic, and cultural rights.
