{"id":4611,"date":"2016-05-02T17:27:10","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T17:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/library\/?p=4611"},"modified":"2016-05-02T17:27:10","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T17:27:10","slug":"higher-education-at-a-glance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/library\/2016\/05\/02\/higher-education-at-a-glance\/","title":{"rendered":"Higher Education at a Glance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As you finish the semester this week here at VSU (please remember that Odum Library is open 24 hours May 3-May 6), consider these interesting facts and sources about higher education in the United States, the University System of Georgia, and on our own campus:<\/p>\n<p>The National Center for Education Statistics collects information about national trends in higher education, including this data:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/programs\/coe\/indicator_cea.asp\">Enrollment Trends by Age<\/a>\u00a0 In 2013,\u00a047 percent of U.S. 18- to 19-year-olds and 39 percent of 20- to 24-year-olds were enrolled in postsecondary education.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/programs\/coe\/indicator_cua.asp\">Price of Attending Undergraduate Institutions<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0At 4-year U.S. public institutions, the average total cost of attendance for first-time, full-time students living on campus and paying in-state tuition was $22,190 at public institutions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/programs\/coe\/indicator_cva.asp\">Institution Retention and Graduate\u00a0Rates for Undergraduate\u00a0Students<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0In terms of student retention among first-time, full-time students who enrolled at 4-year degree-granting institutions in 2012, about 80 percent returned the following fall (in 2013), the most recent years for which numbers are available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For information about the University System of Georgia graduation rates, degree and major information, retention rates, and degrees conferred, consult the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.info.usg.edu\/\">USG by the Numbers<\/a>\u00a0site. Archived reports back to the early 1990s are also available.<\/p>\n<p>Fall 2015 and previous semesters&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/administration\/institutional-research\/data-and-reports\/enrollment.php\">enrollment figures at VSU<\/a>\u00a0are available from\u00a0VSU&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdosta.edu\/administration\/institutional-research\/\">Office of Institutional Research<\/a>, along with much additional data about the VSU community.
