{"id":4628,"date":"2016-07-28T17:27:09","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T17:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/library\/?p=4628"},"modified":"2016-07-28T17:27:37","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T17:27:37","slug":"happy-100th-birthday-national-park-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/library\/2016\/07\/28\/happy-100th-birthday-national-park-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy 100th Birthday, National Park Service!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This August marks 100 years since the founding of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/index.htm\">National Park Service<\/a>\u00a0on August 25, 1916. \u00a0Find the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/subjects\/centennial\/findyourpark.htm\">national park nearest you<\/a> to participate in birthday celebration activities, including free admission to all 412 parks and sites August 25 through August 28, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In Georgia, National Park Service areas include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/ande\/index.htm\">Andersonville National Historic Site<\/a>;\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/appa\/index.htm\">Appalachian Trail<\/a>, a national scenic trail; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/chat\/index.htm\">Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area<\/a>; nearby\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/cuis\/index.htm\">Cumberland Island National Seashore<\/a>; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/malu\/index.htm\">Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site<\/a>; and Macon&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/ocmu\/index.htm\">Ocmulgee National Monument<\/a>, which holds its 2016 Ocmulgee Indian Celebration September 17 and 18, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Among the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/subjects\/centennial\/birthday-invitation.htm\"> special centennial celebration activities<\/a> are celebrations at Major League and AAA ball parks, a time capsule at Great Basin National Park, and a family fun day at Constitution Gardens in Washington, DC.
