The toughest ticket at this year’s Cannes<\/a> Film Festival? A masterclass with Clint Eastwood<\/a>, which unfolded on Sunday afternoon to a packed auditorium and a crowd\u00a0that warmly received the veteran actor and director with a three-minute standing ovation.<\/p>\n

While the two-hour chat, led by\u00a0Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan, surveyed the full scope of Eastwood’s career with a particular eye on his directorial efforts, Eastwood admitted the he missed acting in front of the camera and promised to return to it.<\/p>\n

Eastwood\u2019s last major on-screen performance was in 2012\u2019s \u201cThe Trouble With the Curve” (which, quite notably, came after a four-year acting hiatus). Per Variety’s report<\/a>, he\u00a0told Turan that he missed acting\u00a0\u201conce in a while but not often,\u201d and added that he will return when he is ready.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did a lot of it for a long time. I\u2019ll visit it again someday,” he said.<\/p>\n

While the often outspoken Eastwood didn’t directly address the current U.S. political situation, he did allude to it when discussing the\u00a0first “Dirty Harry,” which was billed by many as being politically incorrect, kicking off an era of P.C.-leaning behavior that he’s clearly not a fan of.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re killing ourselves by doing that, we\u2019ve lost our sense of humor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the festival\u00a0screened Eastwood\u2019s 1992 Western classic, \u201cUnforgiven” as part of their Cannes Classics section. Eastwood is a long-time Cannes regular, screening films such as \u201cChangeling,\u201d \u201cPale Rider,\u201d \u201cBird,\u201d \u201cAbsolute Power,\u201d and \u201cMystic River\u201d at the festival over the years.<\/p>\n

In 1994, he served as President of\u00a0the Official Selection\u00a0jury, which ultimately picked Quentin Tarantino\u2019s \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d as their Palme d\u2019Or winner.<\/p>\n

Eastwood is currently in preproduction on “The 15:17 to Paris,” a terrorist drama penned by\u00a0Dorothy Blyskal.<\/span><\/p>\n
