Among his various pet projects \u2014 the advanced degrees, the literary adaptations that no one asked for and no one watched \u2014 few seem better suited to his sensibilities than &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/the-disaster-artist\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-disaster-artist\">The Disaster Artist<\/a>,&#8221; a dramatization of the making of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/tommy-wiseau\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tommy-wiseau\">Tommy Wiseau<\/a>&#8217;s &#8220;The Room.&#8221; A hilarious detail about the film just emerged from an interview with one of its stars: \u201cFranco directed the whole movie in character as Tommy Wiseau.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2017\/03\/the-disaster-artist-review-the-room-james-franco-sxsw-1201792920\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">READ MORE: \u2018The Disaster Artist\u2019 Review: James Franco is Very Good as a Bad Actor in His Loving Tribute to \u2018The Room\u2019 \u2014 SXSW 2017<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That&#8217;s according to Jason Mantzoukas, who quickly clarified while speaking to <a href=\"http:\/\/ew.com\/movies\/2017\/07\/01\/james-franco-the-disaster-artist-tommy-wiseau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a>: \u201cWell, I should amend that \u2014 he wasn\u2019t in character as Tommy Wiseau, but once he started the day doing Tommy\u2019s voice, he would spend the rest of the day doing the voice,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;So, it wasn\u2019t like he was pretending to be Tommy, but it was like James using Tommy\u2019s speech pattern and accent.
