{"id":1757,"date":"2017-08-03T21:24:43","date_gmt":"2017-08-03T21:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commarts.pleather.us\/2017\/08\/03\/hari-nef-and-ana-fabrega-flirt-awkwardly-in-dark-lesbian-comedy-let-me-die-a-nun-exclusive-clip\/"},"modified":"2017-08-03T21:24:43","modified_gmt":"2017-08-03T21:24:43","slug":"hari-nef-and-ana-fabrega-flirt-awkwardly-in-dark-lesbian-comedy-let-me-die-a-nun-exclusive-clip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/m2\/2017\/08\/03\/hari-nef-and-ana-fabrega-flirt-awkwardly-in-dark-lesbian-comedy-let-me-die-a-nun-exclusive-clip\/","title":{"rendered":"Hari Nef and Ana Fabrega Flirt Awkwardly in Dark Lesbian Comedy \u2018Let Me Die a Nun\u2019 \u2014 Exclusive Clip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When stand-up comedian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/ana-fabrega\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ana-fabrega\">Ana Fabrega<\/a> first read the script for &#8220;Let Me Die a Nun,&#8221; the comedy was so dark she didn&#8217;t think it was a comedy at all. &#8220;She thought it was a drama just from reading the script, because it was such a dry comedy,&#8221; said writer and director Sarah Salovaara. &#8220;She was very confused as to why I was interested in her, but we worked it out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-related-link read-more\">\n\t\t\t<strong class=\"pmc-related-type\">Read More<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2017\/07\/transparent-season-4-trailer-amazon-jeffrey-tambor-emmys-1201861055\/\" title=\"\u2018Transparent\u2019 Season 4 Trailer: Amazon\u2019s Award-Winning Series Heads Out On A Spiritual Odyssey\">\u2018Transparent\u2019 Season 4 Trailer: Amazon\u2019s Award-Winning Series Heads Out On A Spiritual Odyssey<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Salovaara wanted a comedian in the lead role, even though she&#8217;s the straight woman. &#8220;Everyone around her is very heightened, and she has to be the one that grounds the experience in her emotional turmoil,&#8221; said Salovaara. &#8220;I wanted someone who could play drama, but in a comedic context, which comedians can do really well.&#8221; Fabrega stars alongside trans model and &#8220;it&#8221; girl <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/hari-nef\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hari-nef\">Hari Nef<\/a>, whom viewers may recognize from the flashback scenes in season two of &#8220;Transparent.&#8221; A fan of &#8220;Transparent,&#8221; Salovaara was thrilled when Nef agreed to do the micro-budget series.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/222538013\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Let Me Die a Nun \/\/ Trailer<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/sarahsalovaara\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Salovaara<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Salovaara, who transitioned from film journalism to filmmaking a few years ago (she even has clips on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/author\/sarah-salovaara\/\">IndieWire<\/a>), drew from personal experience for the zany premise. &#8220;I started writing this story when I was coming out, and then I finished writing when I was with my first girlfriend,&#8221; she said. &#8220;We\u2019re all very familiar with coming out narratives in LGBTQ cinema, and they\u2019re not necessarily the most stirring of genres. So I wanted to look at it in a heightened context like the church, where the realization that you are gay alters the entire course of your life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-related-link read-more\">\n\t\t\t<strong class=\"pmc-related-type\">Read More<\/strong><a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2017\/07\/hollywood-trump-transgender-military-ban-reactions-george-takei-lgbt-1201860111\/\" title=\"Hollywood Reacts to Trump\u2019s Transgender Military Ban: The \u2018Cruelest\u2019 and \u2018Pettiest\u2019 President\">Hollywood Reacts to Trump\u2019s Transgender Military Ban: The \u2018Cruelest\u2019 and \u2018Pettiest\u2019 President<\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Growing up in a very religious family not only provided dramatic inspiration, but helped when it came to finding shooting locations. &#8220;This was actually shot at my second cousin&#8217;s church in midtown Manhattan,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Salovaara&#8217;s film savvy comes through when discussing with the male suitor\/stalker character, played by Carl Kranz. &#8220;That was a satire of a lot of male leads in romantic comedies, especially from the 80s,&#8221; she said. &#8220;John Cusack types who relentlessly pursue the female characters until they succumb to their wishes, and it\u2019s actually just kind of creepy more so than romantic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In this exclusive clip, tension is ripe when Fabrega and Nef&#8217;s characters meet for the first time.
