{"id":2846,"date":"2018-01-18T21:00:50","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T21:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commarts.pleather.us\/2018\/01\/18\/american-music-abroad-now-accepting-applications-to-tour-the-world\/"},"modified":"2018-01-18T21:00:50","modified_gmt":"2018-01-18T21:00:50","slug":"american-music-abroad-now-accepting-applications-to-tour-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/m2\/2018\/01\/18\/american-music-abroad-now-accepting-applications-to-tour-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"American Music Abroad Now Accepting Applications to Tour the World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sxsw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/American-Voices-Abroad-640x360.png\" alt=\"American Voices Abroad\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-32570\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From a Detroit-based hip-hop group <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/ratsimba-r-tax-tahiry\/aye-aye-cypher-vehivavy-world-wide-women-prod-by-boombap-tax-sasha-kayvon-dj-invisible-dox?fb_action_ids=10210235199149063&amp;fb_action_types=soundcloud%3Apublish\">collaborating with musicians in a studio in Madagascar<\/a> to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eY91wlyo86U\">L.A. rock band playing clubs in Minsk, Belarus<\/a>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/amvoices.org\/ama\">American Music Abroad (AMA)<\/a><\/strong> provides life-changing opportunities for U.S. bands to travel the globe.<\/p>\n<p>The program, an initiative of the United States Department of State\u2019s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, sends American bands from all genres on fully-funded month-long tours, focusing on countries with little or no access to live American musical performances.<\/p>\n<p>Since it began in the 1950s with <a href=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/c7\/2d\/71\/c72d71a68dc12d7148719f59a97572ed.jpg\">Louis Armstrong\u2019s tour of Africa and Eastern Europe<\/a>, AMA has focused on Cultural Diplomacy, creating person-to-person connections through performances, workshops, and collaborations.<\/p>\n<p>Bands must contain between 3\u20135 members, and all members must be U.S. Citizens. We encourage groups in any characteristically American genre to apply, including those who span multiple genres or who may not find a genre that accurately describes their music.<\/p>\n<p>Sound like your thing?
