When it comes to a female audience, what do they value and connect to? These are some of the questions that Editor-in-Chief of <em>Glamour<\/em> Magazine <strong>Samantha Barry<\/strong> and actor, writer, and filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sxsw.com\/film\/2017\/25-years-sxsw-film-festival-lena-dunham\/\"><strong>Lena Dunham<\/strong><\/a> explore during their Featured Session, <a href=\"https:\/\/schedule.sxsw.com\/2018\/events\/PP99758\"><strong>Authenticity and Media in 2018<\/strong><\/a>, at the 2018 <a href=\"\/conference\">SXSW Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;I&#8217;ve always wanted to operate from a place of erasing shame. I haven&#8217;t always done it successfully and I haven&#8217;t always pulled it off perfectly.&#8221; \u2013 Dunham<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The pair spoke about a number of different topics from Dunham&#8217;s decision to get a hysterectomy and her award-winning series <em>Girls<\/em> to social media and what she is currently working on. When discussing advertising and finding an audience, the subject of Dunham&#8217;s feminist publication <em>Lenny Letter<\/em>, which she co-created with her producing partner <strong>Jenni Konner<\/strong> in 2015, naturally came up. &#8220;It is really, really, really important that women get paid to tell their stories and to do their work,&#8221; said Dunham. &#8220;It is something that is becoming increasingly rare on the internet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her session, Dunham made an appearance in the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwww.sxsw.com\/festivals\/film\/\">SXSW Film Festival<\/a> selection, <a href=\"https:\/\/schedule.sxsw.com\/2018\/films\/120635\"><em>Half the Picture<\/em><\/a>. The documentary consists of interviews with high profile women directors including SXSW alums <strong>Ava DuVernay<\/strong>, <strong>Jill Soloway<\/strong>, and many more.
