Her latest film is the thriller &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/in-darkness\/\" id=\"auto-tag_in-darkness\">In Darkness<\/a>,&#8221; which she both co-wrote and stars in as a blind musician who overhears a murder in her apartment building.\u00a0It hasn&#8217;t been especially well received \u2014 it currently sits at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/in_darkness_2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">45% on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/movie\/in-darkness-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a Metascore of 59<\/a> \u2014 and so Dormer has rushed to defend the film against claims that its sexual dynamics are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogerebert.com\/reviews\/in-darkness-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">&#8220;sadistic&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slantmagazine.com\/film\/review\/in-darkness-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">&#8220;icky.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<aside class=\"pmc-related-link read-more\">\n\t\t\t<strong class=\"pmc-related-type\">Read More:<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2018\/04\/in-darkness-trailer-natalie-dormer-1201952532\/\" title=\"\u2018In Darkness\u2019 Trailer: Natalie Dormer Tries to Escape Killers She Can\u2019t See \u2014 Watch\">\u2018In Darkness\u2019 Trailer: Natalie Dormer Tries to Escape Killers She Can\u2019t See \u2014 Watch<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThere has to be sexuality in the power play of a thriller. We have all got bodies, after all. In this film the sex scene, which for me was a love-making scene, is a metaphor for the way my character connects with the part played by Ed Skrein,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2018\/jul\/08\/natalie-dormer-in-darkness-erotic-not-sadistic-game-of-thrones-feminism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">she tells the Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the lead characters do not have a clear connection, then it doesn\u2019t work,\u201d Dormer adds. \u201cAnd on screen it has to be a physical connection between two broken people. That was my intention. In a thriller the protagonists always have to join together somehow and sex represents that connection.
