Its behind-the-scenes story isn&#8217;t over \u2014 Gilliam recently came out on the losing end of a legal battle with his former producer \u2014 but the long-delayed movie has, at the very least, seen the light of day.<\/p>\n<p>To hear Gilliam tell it, that&#8217;s largely thanks to its star: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/adam-driver\/\" id=\"auto-tag_adam-driver\">Adam Driver<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"pmc-related-link read-more\">\n\t\t\t<strong class=\"pmc-related-type\">Read More:<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2018\/06\/the-man-who-killed-don-quixote-lawsuit-terry-gilliam-1201977742\/\" title=\"Terry Gilliam Hasn\u2019t Lost the Rights to \u2018The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,\u2019 Claims His Producer\">Terry Gilliam Hasn\u2019t Lost the Rights to \u2018The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,\u2019 Claims His Producer<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThis film was made because of Adam Driver,\u201d Gilliam declares in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogerebert.com\/interviews\/kviff-2018-terry-gilliam-dreams-the-impossible-dream\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">an interview with RogerEbert.com<\/a>. \u201cI had never seen him do anything, aside from Star Wars, where he\u2019s doing this [opens mouth in screaming pose] a lot, and I was like, \u2018Okay, fine. I don\u2019t care.\u2019&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But my daughter, who is one of the producers, said, \u2018You gotta meet him,\u2019 and I did initially because he was &#8216;hot&#8217; [at the time]. You meet the people who are &#8216;hot&#8217;, because that\u2019s how you\u2019ll get the money you need,&#8221; Gilliam continues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The minute I met him, I thought that there was a quality about this guy that was unlike any other actor I had met. There was a stillness and a genuineness, there was nothing actor-y about him, and he proved to be so much better than I ever imagined.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gilliam also refers to his leading man as &#8220;such a strange actor, because if you just stand him there, he\u2019s kind of goofy looking \u2014 he\u2019s tall and gangly, with a big nose and ears that stick out. He doesn\u2019t look like a movie star, but by the end of this film, he looks like one of the most romantic leading men I\u2019ve seen in a while. He just transforms himself, and it\u2019s not coming from anything external, it\u2019s all coming from inside.
