IndieWire&#8217;s Eric Kohn gives the film a B-, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2018\/09\/halloween-review-jamie-lee-curtis-tiff-2018-1202002127\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writing<\/a> that Green &#8220;has made a slavish, sharply executed bit of fan service elevated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/t\/jamie-lee-curtis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jamie-lee-curtis\">Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a>\u2019 transformation into a badass grandmother back to finish the job.&#8221;<\/p>\n<aside class=\"pmc-related-link read-more\">\n\t\t\t<strong class=\"pmc-related-type\">Read More:<\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/2018\/09\/halloween-review-jamie-lee-curtis-tiff-2018-1202002127\/\" title=\"\u2018Halloween\u2019 Review: Jamie Lee Curtis is a Fierce Survivalist in Campy Sequel Designed to Satisfy Fans of the Original \u2014 TIFF\">\u2018Halloween\u2019 Review: Jamie Lee Curtis is a Fierce Survivalist in Campy Sequel Designed to Satisfy Fans of the Original \u2014 TIFF<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>Writing for <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.nerdist.com\/article\/david-gordon-green-best-halloween-sequel-ever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nerdist<\/a>, Katie Walsh is even more enthusiastic:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;Forty years after the original film\u2019s release, Green, McBride, co-writer Jeff Fradley, and most importantly, star and big beating heart of the franchise Jamie Lee Curtis, made a film that\u2019s a profoundly feminist re-examination of its psychology of trauma through its iconography. It\u2019s also a rip-roaring slasher flick that\u2019s hands down the best Halloween sequel ever.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/movies\/2018\/09\/09\/halloween-is-a-faithful-fundamental-sequel-and-funny-too-ew-tiff-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a>&#8216;s Leah Greenblatt gives it a B+:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;Long live Michael Myers, so maybe someone can finally kill him \u2014 in a big, funny, scary, squishy, super-meta sequel that brings it all back to the iconic 1978 original.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Peter Debruge of <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2018\/film\/reviews\/halloween-review-1202933806\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Variety<\/a> is another fan:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>&#8220;That makes this new &#8216;Halloween&#8217; an act of fan service disguised as a horror movie. The fact it works as both means that Green (who flirted with the idea of directing the &#8216;Suspiria&#8217; remake) has pulled off what he set out to do, tying up the mythology that Carpenter and company established, while delivering plenty of fresh suspense \u2014 and grisly-creative kills \u2014 for younger audiences who are buying into the \u201cHalloween\u201d brand without any real investment in Michael and Laurie\u2019s unfinished business.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The new HALLOWEEN starts with an interesting premise.
