Each year, the UGA College of Education receives funding from the federal government for the professional development of teachers in language arts, mathematics, reading, science and/or social studies at UGA and other institutions of higher education across Georgia.

Many faculty have been inquiring about the 2017 Georgia ESEA Improving Teacher Quality State Grants.  If you are interested in applying you must send a Memo of Intent via email on or before 5:00 PM on Thursday, October 27.

The goal of the Improving Teacher Quality Program is to deepen educators’ content knowledge in the core academic content areas with an emphasis on how enhanced content knowledge impacts teaching practices and student learning. Specifically, Improving Teacher Quality assists educators in:

  • Becoming current in the content they teach
  • Using innovative instructional strategies to teach their subject areas
  • Developing the background necessary to incorporate technology in the courses they teach

Grants also address how teachers use technology, alternative assessment strategies, or innovative teaching strategies, all with the goal to strengthen and deepen content knowledge in academic subjects and look at how deepened knowledge impacts teaching practices and student learning.
