Grants.gov recently posted highlights from a talk on possible updates to the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) Uniform Guidance (UG). The ideas were shared by Gil Tran, Senior Policy Advisor at OMB, during the U.S. Department of Health’s OGAPA Grants Management Conference on January 9, 2018. Among the possible updates and trends for the UG, Tran said to look for expansions of “buy and hire American” policies from contracts into federal grants, an increase in focus on performance and demonstrated spending outcomes, and impacts on the UG from two research policy workgroups associated with the 21st Century Cures Act and the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act that are looking at policies affecting research administration.
