One of the best ways to learn how to write a quality research proposal is to serve as a peer reviewer, directly taking part in the process that determines what projects get funded. The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released a new orientation video to provide tips for peer reviewers, The Art and Science of Reviewing Proposals. Beyond being of interest to prospective reviewers, the tips could also help inform potential applicants whose project ideas will be subjected to the peer review process. The video can be accessed in FastLane through the Panelist Travel and Reimbursement page and the Proposal Review, Ad Hoc Reviewers page – or directly, here. You must provide your name and valid email address to get started. At the end of the video, there is a link to additional resources and a list of helpful hints. To become a peer reviewer, email your CV to the program officer of the NSF program that matches your interests.
