Grants Resource Center, by Fatoyinbo, Willette B.

The Amgen Scholars Program will offer financial assistance and hands-on summer biomedical and biotechnology research opportunities to 15 undergraduate students in 2019. The program aims to increase access for students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to connect with world renowned scientists in state of the art research facilities. The Amgen Scholars Program is made possible through a partnership between the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Amgen Foundation to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH). Applications are due February 1, 2019.

Dr. Sharon Milgram, director of the NIH Office of Training and Education, explains the need for bridge programs such as the Amgen Scholars Program by stating, “Science education must include more career information earlier in the teaching arc, with a greater focus on self- and relationship-management to promote better team science, a deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary approaches needed to solve research problems, and a greater understanding of the impact of science on society.”

To date, the Amgen Foundation has donated over $300 million to local, regional and international nonprofit organizations that reshape society using inspiration and innovation. Click here to learn more about the Foundation.
