CUR Announces 2019 AURA Awardees:
Bridgewater State University, Florida State University, Occidental College

FSU fourth-year student Nina Harmon
Bridgewater State University (Bridgewater, MA), Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL), and Occidental College (Los Angeles, CA) are the latest recipients of CUR’s  (AURA). Now in its fifth year, the AURA award draws on CUR’s (COEUR), which outlines criteria for exceptional undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity programs. For AURA recognition, campuses must demonstrate depth and breadth in their undergraduate research initiatives and evidence of continual innovation.

Conference Grants Available, CUR Dialogues 2020

CUR is offering a limited number of conference grants for individuals to attend  on February 14-17, 2020, in Arlington, VA, which will feature sessions with federal agency program officers and representatives from other funders. The grants are offered to support the goals of the organization’s  and . Awardees will be able to register at the early-bird enhanced rate of $425 and will receive a $500 travel grant. The deadline to apply is Nov 21, 2019. 

Applications Open for 2019 Trimmer Travel Fund,
CUR Arts and Humanities Division

The CUR Arts and Humanities Division has opened applications for the 2019 Trimmer Travel Fund, which provides support to undergraduate scholars in the arts and humanities presenting their research at professional meetings. The application deadline is Nov 18, 2019. 

Nominations Due Nov 15 for CUR Leadership Positions

CUR is able to fulfill its mission because of its volunteers! Are you passionate about undergraduate research? Would you like to deepen your involvement? The deadline for self-nominations for the positions of councilor, president-elect, and council representative to the CUR Executive Board is November 15, 2019. 

Submit Abstracts by Nov 22 for 2020 CUR Biennial

At the 2020 CUR Biennial Conference at Purdue University on June 27-30, 2020, faculty, administrators, staff, academic and community partners, and policymakers will share models of undergraduate research activities from a wide variety of settings and disciplines, organized by the following themes:

• Assessment in Undergraduate Research

• Diversity and Inclusion in Undergraduate Research

• Integrating and Building Undergraduate Research into Curriculum and Coursework

• New Models and Settings for Undergraduate Research

Abstracts may be submitted for oral and poster presentations until Nov 22, 2019. In addition, submissions are welcomed that fall outside a specific theme, including those with nontraditional presentation formats (e.g., performances). 

Submit Nominations by Nov 22 for CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Award

CUR and the Goldwater Scholars program invite nominations for the CUR-Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Award, which recognizes faculty mentors of Goldwater Scholars who conduct their research in a STEM discipline. The nomination deadline is Nov 22, 2019. 

Apply for CUR’s Broadening Participation Institute

Hosted by Carroll University on Mar 20-22, 2020, CUR’s Broadening Participation Institute will assist faculty and administrators in developing or enhancing their knowledge, skills, and competencies in increasing access, fostering diversity, and creating an inclusive environment for all students in undergraduate research, scholarship, and creativity programs (URSCA).Teams of faculty and administrator participants will craft action plans to achieve inclusive excellence on their home campuses. The institute aims for participants to develop an authentic program that supports broadening participation in URSCA across campus and/or within a department, program, or focus. The application deadline is Jan 23, 2020.

Undergraduate Research Highlights, which appear on the  and in CUR’s journal , are brief descriptions of peer-reviewed research/scholarly work that has appeared in academic journals, books and book chapters, web-based publications, and juried performances. Highlights should be from the past six months, be in print, and include one or more undergraduate coauthors. The submission deadline is Nov 22, 2019. 

ASCB Seeks Applicants, PALM Network

The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) seeks applicants for the Promoting Active Learning and Mentoring (PALM) Network, which aims to increase the use of active learning in undergraduate lecture courses. PALM guides instructors to put into practice effective methods of active learning. The application deadline is Oct 31, 2019. 

ASPB Invites Proposals, Transforming Education in Plant Biology

The American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) invites proposals for the Transforming Education in Plant Biology program, which seeks to transform undergraduate biology education through the development of new instructional materials in plant biology. The application deadline is Oct 31, 2019. 

ACLS Offers Digital Extension Grants

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is offering grants of up to $150,000 to advance digital humanities research projects and extend their reach to new communities of scholars. The application deadline is January 8, 2020.
