The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has announced the following competitions for its Education Research and Special Education Research Grant Programs through the Institute of Education Sciences (IES):

Note that special education research is limited to Research to Accelerate Pandemic Recovery in Special Education Assistance at this time and not the wider range of topics available in previous rounds. IES may announce additional competitions later in 2021.

Also of note, ED has also opened competition for two types of Education Innovation and Research (EIR) Program grants – Expansion Phase Grants and Mid-Phase Grants. Applications for both types of grants are due July 7, 2021. The EIR program provides funding to create, develop, implement, replicate, or take to scale entrepreneurial, evidence-based, field-initiated innovations to improve student achievement and attainment for high-need students; and rigorously evaluate such innovations.
