Dr. Fanhao Nie was recently awarded the Jack Shand Research – Society for the Scientific Study of Religion grant for his research project titled, “Asian Hate, Minority Stress, and Religious Coping; A Study of Asian and Asian American Users of Online Dating Platforms During the COVID-19 Pandemic.” In his project, inspired by the Minority Stress Theory (Meyer 2003), Asian and Asian American users of major online dating platforms will be surveyed and interviewed to better understand the mental health consequences of anti-Asian racism during the COVID-19 Pandemic. More importantly, his study will examine how different kinds of religious coping strategies might alleviate or perhaps exacerbate racism related minority stress for Asians and Asian Americans.
Assistant Professor of Sociology, Dr. Nie’s areas of interest are: Quantitative Methods, Religion, Health, and Youth Development.
