Congratulations to Dr. Shafat Mubin, Affordable Learning Georgia Grant Awardee (Round 20)! The Affordable Learning Georgia grant is a USG initiative which focuses on reducing the costs of textbooks and the enhancement of Open Educational Resources (OER), GALILEO and Georgia’s Virtual Library. Equitable access to materials and lower material costs for students supports retention, progression and graduation.

Dr. Mubin’s project aims to make video lectures series and materials available to students and instructors of PHYS 1111K: Introductory Physics I. Due to increased demand for interactive learning alternatives, the project will provide independent, self-contained resources that include chapter references to the OpenStax College Physics textbook. At the same time, the uploaded material can serve as a resource for new instructors who can choose slide content for their own lectures or use the video lectures as additional resources. YouTube allows automatic conversion of audio to closed captioning text that comply with ALG accessibility standards. Once finalized, the lecture slides and the links to the lecture videos will be uploaded to Vtext Institutional Repository and LibGuides to provide open access to students and instructors.

Dr. Shafat Mubin is an Assistant Professor of Physics at VSU. He obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from Pennsylvania State University and his B.A.from Bard College. Dr. Mubin teaches introductory physics (PHYS 1111K, PHYS 1112K) and upper-level quantum mechanics (PHYS 4411, PHYS 4412), classical mechanics (PHYS 4111, PHYS 4112), and mathematical methods (PHYS 3810). His research interests are in computational physics. Dr. Mubin possesses several years of experience lecturing PHYS 1111K using lecture slides that have been continuously enhanced for content and presentation.
