Dr. Charles Backes from Adult and Career Education was awarded for the CTAE Institute from the US Department of Education. The CTAE Institute is designed to provide new Trade and Industrial and Healthcare Science Technology Education teachers with basic instructional skills.
Dr. Thomas Manning from the Biology Department was awarded for “Applications of Green Technology for Habitat Restoration and Artificial Reef Construction” from Schmidt Marine. The project will develop technology to aid oyster regeneration.
Dr. Mizanur Miah of the Social Work Department was awarded for the Title IV-E Child Welfare Education Program from the US Department of Health and Human Services. The Title IV-E Program helps to strengthen public child welfare service initiatives by developing and retaining a stable workforce of educated and professional social workers.
Dr. Denise Reid from the Math Department was awarded for the SK Day Camp from the Wal-Mart Community Grants Program. SK Day is a project that seeks to encourage high school women to pursue the study of mathematics and prepare for possible careers in mathematics related fields. The event is named in honor of Sonia Kovalevsky, a Russian mathematician and the first women to earn a doctorate in mathematics.
Dr. Mark Williams from Alcohol and Other Drug Education was awarded Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Young Adult Grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Increase awareness and compliance with DUI and Underage Drinking laws among the Valdosta State University and surrounding community through the office of Alcohol and Other Drug Education.
