The\u00a0Amgen Scholars Program<\/a>\u00a0will offer financial assistance and hands-on summer biomedical and biotechnology research opportunities to\u200b 15 undergraduate students in 2019. The program aims to increase access for students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to connect with world renowned scientists in state of the art research facilities.\u00a0The Amgen Scholars Program\u00a0is made possible through a partnership between the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Amgen Foundation to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH). Applications are due\u00a0February 1, 2019.\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Sharon Milgram, director of the NIH Office of Training and Education, explains the need for bridge programs such as the Amgen Scholars Program by stating, \u201cScience education must include more career information earlier in the teaching arc, with a greater focus on self- and relationship-management to promote better team science, a deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary approaches needed to solve research problems, and a greater understanding of the impact of science on society.\u201d<\/p>\n
