The fellowships are intended to further the development of scholars and artists who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. This was the 95<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0competition for the program, which generally receives about 3,000 applications per year and awards about 175 fellowships. The annual deadline for the competition is\u00a0<strong>September 17<\/strong>. The next competition is expected to open in July, 2019.
