As shown in the AHRQ\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahrq.gov\/cpi\/about\/mission\/budget\/2018\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2009-2017\u00a0Appropriation History Table ,\u00a0<\/a>the agency committed to\u00a0&#8220;making health care safer, higher quality, more accessible, equitable, and affordable&#8221; had received a steady flow of\u00a0 budget cuts dating back to 2009. While the Trump Administration had hoped to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bna.com\/budget-deal-took-n57982088680\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fold the agency<\/a>\u00a0into the National Institutes of Health in its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahrq.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/wysiwyg\/cpi\/about\/mission\/budget\/2018\/NIRSQ.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FY 18 request<\/a>\u00a0(and continues to push for this in its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/fy-2019-budget-in-brief.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FY 19 request<\/a>), Congress is resisting and has appropriated $334 million for AHRQ in FY 18 &#8211; a $10 million (3.1 percent) increase over AHRQ\u2019s FY 17 funding level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The recently passed\u00a0omnibus spending bill\u00a0provided a boost to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), halting a nearly decade-long trend of cuts.
