October, OSPRA celebrated the annual Grant Writer\u2019s Appreciation\u00a0Reception at the IDEA House, recognizing both faculty and staff for their successful grant writing contributions and contracts for sponsored research.\u00a0 The event has become a much anticipated annual occasion and focuses on bringing together colleagues from various university departments and disciplines.\u00a0 According to Dr. James LaPlant, Dean of the Graduate School and Assistant Vice President of Research, \u201cOur grant writers are the engine that drives sponsored programs at VSU.\u00a0 Grant writing has increased over the last two years as well as the external dollars requested in those proposals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-100 size-medium demands on faculty and staff, grant writing is often disregarded due to its time and labor intensiveness.\u00a0 \u201cGrant writers are a critical\u00a0component in strengthening the university and expanding the research portfolio,\u201d says Elizabeth Olphie, Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Administration.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWe love our grant writers and our department offers a variety of services designed to streamline the process while minimizing the administrative burden.\u00a0 We\u2019re already looking forward to planning next year\u2019s event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p
