Aramis Phaire was born in Savannah, Ga. After high school, Aramis attended Xavier University and later transferred to Valdosta State University to pursue his career in art. Phaire will be graduating in December 2017 with a B.A. in Fine Arts. Post-graduation, Aramis will seek employment as a storyboard artist or concept artist. His education and passion has led him to these careers because of his love for creating original characters, colorful designs and unique concepts.
His work is influenced by James Jean, whose own use of color, the female body and gaze, have inspired much of his art and this can be seen in much of Aramis’s drawings. Aramis is also inspired by James O’barr, whose work shows emotional depth through facial expressions, body language and environments. Though O’Barrs’ work lacks color, it doesn’t take away from its strong emotional tone and imaginary which helps tell the story of his work. Aramis has appropriated much of these concepts into his own work.
My drawings and digital illustrations depict portraits of women and the female gaze. I am always fascinated by women and their beauty, and I try to capture that essence through either drawing or by creating digital illustrations. My drawings rely on the use of line weight, while my digital illustrations add elements of color to my drawings. These elements come together to portray the mood, meaning and emotions for each piece.
