Carla Johnson was born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia. She is currently going to school to obtain a B.A. in Art at Valdosta State University. Her studies have a focus in graphic design and animation, along with traditional media like painting and drawing. A lot of her works’ influences come from books, games, and animation, especially the ones within the fantasy genre.
Her art depicts surreal and abstract concepts that give a variety of emotions and feelings physical representation in an illustrative manner. She aspires to be an illustrator and storyboard artist after she graduates.
I use fantasy and surrealist themes in my work to give feelings and psychological concepts representation in an illustrative manner. This is achieved by using vibrant colors, figures, abstractions, and dreamlike imagery to help display ideas that are usually depicted in a realistic manner.
My work is inspired by graphic novels, role-playing games, and animations that use the scenery of their world to help narrate stories and express feelings. I utilize this method of narration in my work as well, having my characters and their settings to convey ideas in nontraditional ways.I use traditional media, such as painting and drawing, in conjunction with animation and graphic design to illustrate my surrealistic concepts.
