Born in Vermont and living up North for a few years has impacted her and her work. she has spent most of her life in Florida. Both the north and south have influence in how Katrina creates art, fascinated by how the seasons affect different areas. She uses nature and abstraction in a lot of her work. She likes her work to have a positive effect on people and focus on light hearted subjects. She uses color, style, expressions and humor to engage with people’s optimistic emotions. Keeping a positive attitude in a world that’s constantly pushing negative towards you is important. She has published a post card through North Florida community college, and has had work shown in a student show at Valdosta State University in 2016 and has shown work in Albany Georgia in 2017. My goal with my artwork is to share my getaway with the viewers. My escape was usually going into nature and getting away from the stressful busy life. The work focuses on subjects that I find to be light hearted and positive. I know there are a lot of negative things in the world but I think the positive is not concentrated on enough. We see negativity in the media and news all the time. Growing up in hard times made me realize that if I thought of things that were still positive it would help me feel better. When my art is looked at, my goal is for people to walk away with a smile on their face or even a chuckle. If they even get to escape into my art for a moment my work has achieved its purpose.

Back

Katrina Handson is a student studying fine arts at Valdosta State University.
