The theme for this year&#8217;s homecoming was commUNITY. The Society for International Students incorporated the theme and came up with their own which was 50 nations, 1 commUNITY. The 50 nations is the amount of countries represented by international students attending VSU which makes up one community. The theme was appropriate for the SIS because the organization is on a mission to be more active on campus.<div id=\"attachment_62\" style=\"width: 2058px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/1291292_519730131449658_209937676_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/1291292_519730131449658_209937676_o.jpg\" alt=\"50 nations, 1 commUNITY!\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1366\" class=\"size-full wp-image-62\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-62\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">50 nations, 1 commUNITY!<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nOn Saturday October 7, international students began to congregate at the Center for International programs at approximately 9 a.m. They were encouraged to wear VSU colors or traditional outfits from their home country. Many came out representing their home countries and were eager to participate in the parade. Students were provided with flags from their home country in which they held or wore as part of their clothing.<div id=\"attachment_63\" style=\"width: 2058px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/737196_519729881449683_935045389_o-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/737196_519729881449683_935045389_o-1.jpg\" alt=\"Students in Traditional Dress!\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1366\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-63\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students in Traditional Dress!<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n The parade began at 11 a.m. and the SIS had international music played by a Belizean Dj, Dj Karlo. The music was very live and our students celebrated by singing and dancing throughout the parade.<div id=\"attachment_64\" style=\"width: 2058px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/919135_10153356314180608_1952047363_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-64\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/919135_10153356314180608_1952047363_o.jpg\" alt=\"Dj Karlo!\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1357\" class=\"size-full wp-image-64\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-64\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dj Karlo!<\/p><\/div> We also had a student dressed up as VSU&#8217;s mascot, Blaze who lead the SIS in the parade. Students also gave out candy to the children during the parade. <div id=\"attachment_65\" style=\"width: 2058px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/1239227_10153356307295608_956087072_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/sis\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2013\/10\/1239227_10153356307295608_956087072_o.jpg\" alt=\"International Students during the homecoming parade!\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1357\" class=\"size-full wp-image-65\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-65\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">International Students during the homecoming parade!<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nThe SIS also had its homecoming queen representative, Dilcia Turcios from Honduras in the parade.
