{"id":444,"date":"2016-10-26T18:27:25","date_gmt":"2016-10-26T18:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/stemitl\/?p=444"},"modified":"2016-10-26T18:27:44","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T18:27:44","slug":"coastal-georgia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.valdosta.edu\/stemitl\/2016\/10\/26\/coastal-georgia\/","title":{"rendered":"Coastal Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"_rp_85\">\n<div class=\"_rp_N4 ms-border-color-neutralLight ShowReferenceAttachmentsLinks\">\n<div class=\"_rp_Z4 _rp_Y4\">\n<div>\n<div id=\"Item.MessagePartBody\" class=\"_rp_P4\">\n<div id=\"Item.MessageUniqueBody\" class=\"_rp_Q4 ms-font-weight-regular ms-font-color-neutralDark rpHighlightAllClass rpHighlightBodyClass\">\n<div class=\"rps_7e0\">\n<div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div id=\"x_divtagdefaultwrapper\">\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">By Julie Drury<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The coast of Georgia is arguably one of the best-kept secrets in the state.\u00a0 From the old riverfront of Savannah to Cumberland Island, and Driftwood Beach, Georgia\u2019s coastline boasts a variety of tourist destinations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Savannah is one of my favorite cities.\u00a0 It is full of history, yet remains vibrant and modern, with great food, music and culture.\u00a0 The combination of old buildings, historic cemeteries, and city squares draped in the shade of oak trees and Spanish moss gives Savannah its unmistakable and undeniable charm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Further south you can arrange to take a ferry to the Cumberland Island National Seashore.\u00a0 As part of the Golden Isles and National Parks system, Cumberland Island is federally protected land and home to a number of different animals, including wild horses.\u00a0 Visitors to the Island must arrive by private boat or ferry and are limited to a certain number per day.\u00a0 There are ruins of an old fort on the Island and tourists may rent bicycles to traverse the paths that cut through the varied ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Driftwood Beach has to be one of the most iconic of the Georgia beaches.\u00a0 Located on the North end of Jekyll Island, another of the Golden Isles, Driftwood Beach is the result of continued erosion.\u00a0 The beach has begun to move further and further inland, leaving behind what looks like a cemetery of trees.\u00a0 It is a photographer\u2019s dream to be sure!<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">From cities overflowing with character to beautiful, sandy beaches, the Georgia coast can\u2019t be beat!
