Undergraduate students
Thomas Wilson (FCC Tech)
Thomas joined the lab in his sophomore year. He hales from Jacksonville FL and his independent research project optimized paraffin histology for muscle tissue types.
Brylie Ritchie (FCC Tech)
Brylie had a very interesting project in the lab; to build an electronic tracker using economical tools that are readily available to Ham radio licensees. She is also adept at histological technique. She was accepted to the Physician Assistant program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Her puppy Coda is our lab mascot. She won several academic awards including the 2023 Martha Paulk award and Marjorie Carter award!
Yasmin Guzman (FCC Tech)
Yasmin’s project in the lab was to improve insect paraffin histology. She was able to optimize the technique to make histological sections of mosquitos. She won the 2022 COSM student of the year award! She is now in the process of selecting her medical school.
Lindsey Robinson
Lindsey is a top volleyball player for the VSU Blazers. She studied hagfish histology in my lab and is studying at Florida International University in their Physician Assistant program.
Kathleen Tatro
Katie hales from Canton GA and is very good at imaging and histology. She went on to get a Doctorate in Health Services Management and Policy from East Tennessee State University.
Bri Young
Bri comes to Valdosta from Moultrie GA. She is in the VSU pre-med program and is trained in histological techniques. Bri loves motorcycles and field work. She went on to a program in microbiology at UGA.
Rasheeda Rickman
Rasheeda hails from Brooklyn and is in VSUs pre-med track. She specializes in paraffin histology. Rasheeda enjoys ballet dancing and working with youth social groups. She is now an MD like her father!
William Dawe (FCC Tech)
William loves to go fishing in the Gulf, flying drones, and is now has a Ph.D. and is an expert on Poultry viruses.
Graduate students
Adrienne Hoburn (FCC Tech)
Adrienne was an undergraduate research student in my lab, and also a Senior Airman in the US Air Force. She went on to studying the soft tissue components of the feeding apparatus of the hagfish using paraffin histological technique.
Luke Clubb
Luke completed his thesis on the form and function of the hagfish feeding apparatus in 2018. He went on to become a Physician Assistant in Ashville NC.
Austin Haney (FCC Tech)
Austin finished his MS thesis on the kinematics of hagfish knotting in 2017. He is now an environmental specialist for the Department of Public Health in Valdosta GA.
