The two can be hard to balance, but you can easily tackle both by having a fitness buddy. Developing a buddy system will help ensure that you and your partner are getting the best out of each workout.

Becoming a great fitness partner involves more than working out. You both must incorporate accountability to help motivate each other and stay consistent. Another important factor is to assure that you are staying alert of each other’s safety when using equipment. All in all, be sure to have fun and make each other feel as comfortable as possible!

Here is a list of benefits that the buddy system offers.

Friendly Competition

Competing to see who can do the most sets or laps is a great way to stay motivated. There’s no way you’re going to let your buddy get ahead of you, right?

Quit Quitting

Having a fitness buddy helps eliminate those days you’d rather lay on the couch than exercise because you don’t want to leave them hanging. You both can help push each other to keep going when working out and avoid quitting.

Try New Workouts

Trying a new workout can be nerve wracking because you feel like you’ll do it wrong or you’re being judged. Your partner will help you be more comfortable and accompany you in partner workouts as well.

Less of a Chore, More of an Activity

Once you feel the burn, that’s all you can think about. With a partner by your side, it makes the discomfort easier to handle by having small conversations here and there. A few jokes and catching up will help the workouts go by easier and faster.

Less Risk of Injury

When lifting or working with different machines, you and your fitness buddy can look out for one another and make sure you are doing the workout correctly.

Therapeutic

During small breaks, catch up with your fitness buddy and have discussions about work, family, and other things happening in you all’s lives. Also, working out can help release any stress on your mind and make you push yourself harder.

Find your fitness buddy and develop the fitness buddy system in time to join us here at the VSU Campus Recreation Center on February 24th for the Sweat to Swag: Fitness Buddy Day!
